Flexography

Did you know that flexography is the most used printing technique for printing on packaging and corrugated cardboard? It is a versatile technique that allows a wide variety of finishes and is very economical. Here we will explain in more detail what flexography is and what the keys to its success are.

What is flexography?

Flexography is a printing technique widely used on corrugated cardboard. In this method, a flexible embossed plate called a cliché is used, in which the areas to be printed on the support protrude. This plate is made of photopolymer, a highly flexible synthetic material that adapts perfectly to a wide range of printing surfaces. Printing is carried out by passing the cardboard between two rollers.

Main characteristics of flexography

Perhaps its most important feature is its great quality-price ratio. It is, in fact, one of the cheapest printing systems out there. And flexography will allow you a very high degree of customization in your packaging with all types of designs and illustrations capable of giving your boxes a unique personality. But its production cost is surprisingly low, especially in relation to the final result.

This happens because quick-drying liquid inks are used in flexography. This allows you to print many boxes in a short time, and maintain a good production rate with very low costs. Furthermore, in flexography up to 10 inks can be combined in the same design, something that gives an idea of the complexity of the designs it supports. And it also allows a wide range of finishes, such as varnishes of varying intensity (ultraviolet, high gloss, machine...) or finishes such as plastic lamination.

When is flexography recommended?

It is especially suitable for businesses that are looking for a high level of customization in their boxes at a very economical cost. To make the most of the savings, it is recommended that the business has a large volume of boxes to print. Likewise, when designing the boxes, some details must be taken into account, such as that the fonts must have a certain minimum size. If your business needs personalized packaging at a very good price and quick production, flexography is your best bet.
